Places to Visit in Wayanad

Chain Tree

Chain tree is one of the place which is very much influenced by the old history and attracts many of the travelers. It is located on the national highway near the Pepper Wayanad Gate Hotel. Their is a ficus tall tree which holds a massive steel chain which have a multiple stories and legends related to its existence. The one of the famous stry is related to the local tribal person whose name is Karinthandhan. Thus, this is the best place to explore in Wayanad.

Banasura Dham

It is lying in the lap of Banasura hills in the wayanad district. It is largest dam in the country and the second largest in Asia. The view from the top of the dam is heart melting. Here you can also do many adventerous activities like speed boating, and a trek up to Banasura peak is filled with streams, flora and fauna, lush tropical green and majestic waterfalls. This biggest dam of the country was first created by placing mounds of clay, rock or soil. The view from the top of hills is very beautiful and is enjoyed by everyone.

Chembra Peak

It is located close to the bumbling town of Meppay which is just 10 Km away from Kalpetta, and stands the highest peak of the wayanad hill range. The Chembra peak is at the altitude of the 2000 meters above the sea level. This peak is surrounded by the lush greenery and the heart shaped lake make it a paradise for the travelers who came here to explore the district. This peak is very famous for trekking. So, in short it is also a best tourist attraction in the wayanad.

It is a small town which is located in the wayanad city itself. This small town is totally surrounded by rain forest which provides a elegant view. Thirunelli Temple

This is the ancient temple which was once an important pilgrimage located in the valley. The temple is devoted to Lord Vishnu. The name “Thirunelli Temple” was derived from the “Amla Tree” and is associated with a legend that states Lord Brahma had identified the idol of Lord Vishnu under the Amla Tree when he was passing by. Neelimala View Point

This view point offers a fabulous view of lush green natural vegetation and also have heart melting Meenmutti Waterfalls. Karapuzha Dam

This dam is situated in the wayanad district itself and at the both sides of the karapuzha river and also one the largest dam in India. Here, the water is approx 160 feet deep and the dam can be visited during day time preferably because during night the visibility get low. The enthusiastic water, immerse hills, pleasing environment and the leafy island make is a perfect place for aquatic birds and a charming place for the tourist. This man-made marvel with its greenery surrounding and a birds around is a great place to go to in order to unwind and relax amidst the natural surrounding.

Seetha Devi Temple

This temple is unique because this is the only temple in the state which worships the children of Sita, love and khush. This is situated in the Pulpally in the wayanad district of Kerala. The main deity of the\is temple is Goddess Sita and the legends of Ramayana is closely related to the temple. This temple is constructed in the 18th century by Shri Pazhassi Raja. This temple also have a largest pond where it was believed that it was the same place where Goddess Sita was disappeared into the earth.

Wayanad Wildlife Sanctuary

It is the second largest sanctuary in Kerala which comprises of both rare and endangered species of both flora and fauna. This was discovered in the year 1973 and it is also one of the part of Niligiri Biosphere Reserve which was the first biosphere out of the 14 present in India. It is spread over an area of 350 square km and have two parts namely, upper wayanad and lower wayanad. There are many more things to explore. Hence this is also best place to visit here.
